The Santa Fe’s route to the San Francisco Bay area – the Valley Division – was the furthest extremity of the sprawling system.  The 300 miles of main line north of Bakersfield saw GP30’s, GP35’s as well as the new War Bonnets in the final two decades of Santa Fe.
