By Bill Volkmer with Robert Yanosey
Bill Volkmer always had his camera on hand during his mechanical supervision career with the PRR from 1958-68. Enjoy both his colorful photography and anecdotes in this Chicago - New York tour with stops in Philadelphia, Canton, Gallitzin, the NY&LB, and other Pennsy locales!
Enjoy heavy duty power at Conemaugh in 1958 and 59; join Bill on second trick at Enola as Assistant Foreman; then as Motive Power Foreman at Northumberland where PRR’s historic steam collection was found in need of a great deal of TLC.
Bill Volkmer’s first stop in his Pennsy career was a training program at Altoona. His color photography in 1958-59 was just past the steam age and the diesel fleet was still entirely first-generation.
This final volume examines the other states in which Bill Volkmer photographed the PRR. It concludes with a grand tour of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, ending at Renovo where the painful decision was made to leave the newly-created Penn Central Transportation Company.
