While this book has a small taste of big mainline steam, it is devoted to those small steam roads in Virginia and West Virginia that continued to operate in the 1950’s well after most other roads had turned to diesel. Photographer Thieme gave special emphasis to logging roads, the operations of which are illustrated in colorful detail.
