By 1964 when this photo was taken in April, NYC continued its plan to abandon costly stations and terminals, such as the one in Albany, New York. A good number had already been sold, and those that could not be sold were demolished. The station in Rochester was a prime example. Actually, it was removed piecemeal, while passengers were shunted to areas still intact while demolition continued. Many through passenger trains took on the appearance of mail trains with a few coaches added on the rear. The exceptions were the Century and the New England States. The pair of E8s retains their lightning stripes and look in good condition for old ladies. (Matt Herson)
